Young attended, Buena Vista College and graduated with a degree in English from Drake University, 1991. Since 1993 Young has had a long history of political involvement, first as a Former Career: Congressional aide, to the chief of staff to Iowa Republican senator Chuck Grassley. Young was elected to Congress in 2015. As a Congressman, Young is opposed to same-sex marriage; however, In May 2016, he voted to approve a measure aimed at upholding an executive order that bars discrimination against LGBT employees by federal contractors. Young voted to repeal the Affordable Care Act (“Obamacare”). He also voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 (“Trumpcare”) and said he believed the bill would provide tax relief to Iowans. He is opposed to abortion rights and regulating greenhouse gases. He would not decrease the defense budget in order to balance the budget. David Young accepted campaign contributions of $700,000 from the NRA and is opposed to gun control legislation. He urrently resides in Van Meter.
