Assumed congressional office in 2015. Former Career: California State Senate, California State Assembly, Mayor of Laguna Niguel. Education: University of California, Los Angeles. Currently resides in Laguna Niguel. Walters was born in Pasadena, California, and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles. Before entering politics, Walters was an investment banker from 1988–95. She was a member of the California State Senate and the California State Assembly from 2004 to 2014, and was elected to the US Congress in 2014. Statistically Walters is placed among the congressional members most supportive of then- candidate Trump, having endorsed him "wholeheartedly". Walters opposes abortion but has deemphasized the issue during her political campaigns. In 2015, during her freshman Congressional term, she served on the Select Panel to Investigate Planned Parenthood. In November 2017 Walters voted in favor of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, the house version of the Republican Party’s tax reform bill. Walters is a climate change denier and has opposed federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions. She recently sponsored a bill to gut the Environmental Protection Agency, which would limit or do away with protections for clean water and air. In the wake of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting, Walters offers thoughts and prayers to the victims. Walters supports the repeal of Obamacare and voted to repeal Obamacare. She opposes same-sex marriage and other protections for the LGBT community. She is married with four children. She and her husband currently live Currently resides in Laguna Niguel, outside of Walters’ California 45th District.
