Dan was born and raised in Minnesota. He has a special interest in farmers’ well-being, and in the nation’s foreign and defense policy. After 9/11 he joined the army reserve in college and served from 2005-2009 as an active duty soldier with2 tours in Iraq. After his military service he became a schoolteacher on Chicago’s South Side. After graduate school he joined the Obama administration, first as a White House Fellow and then as an acting Assistant Secretary of Defense. After finishing his service with President Obama, he moved back to Minnesota to write and conduct research on the military. In foreign and defense policy Dan will lead an effort to bring new Congressional oversight to the war on terrorism, while ensuring our service members are only sent into harm’s way with a clear mission and when it’s absolutely necessary. He is married with two sons.
