Currently resides in Lincoln Park. On August 3, 2016, Kinzinger announced that he would not support Donald Trump. "I’m an American before I’m a Republican," adding that "I’m a Republican because I believe that Republicanism is the best way to defend the United States of America… [Trump] throws all of these Republican principles on their head." Kinzinger is a member of both the Republican Study Committee and the more moderate Republican Main Street Partnership. On the subject of climate change, Kinzinger signed a pledge sponsored by Americans for Prosperity (Koch funded) promising to vote against any global warming legislation that would raise taxes. On the subject of healthcare, he is in favor of repealing Obamacare. He voted for the 2017 GOP Healthcare Bill, a bill that would repeal major parts of Obamacare. Kinzinger voted in favor of the Republican tax bill, which would give tax cuts to the very wealthy, justifying his vote by saying that “economic growth is stagnant.” On the subject of gun safety, Kinzinger is in favor of concealed carry of weapons across state lines. Finally, on the subject of financial stability, Kinzinger is opposed to the Dodd-Frank bill, which was passed in the wake of the 2008 financial crash.
