Aftab Pureval is the Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, the first Democrat to hold this office in more than 100 years. Aftab was born and raised in Southwest Ohio, the son of first- generation Americans who came to this country from India. He earned a B.A. in political science from Ohio State University in 2005 and a J.D. from the University of Cincinnati College of Law in 2008. After receiving his law degree, he became an antitrust litigator for firm White and Case. He returned to Hamilton County to become Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Dept. of Justice. In 2013, he worked as in-house counsel for Procter & Gamble. He was awarded Cincinnati Business Courier’s 40 under 40 in 2015. Aftab brought modern and professional reforms to the Clerk’s office. He ended patronage and nepotism, launched a new website, cut fees for public records, and put services online. Aftab has also been active in the community, becoming the first man to serve on the board of the Women’s Fund.
