He was a speechwriter and political consultant for many years, including three years in the Carter White House. He was elected to the Leon County Commission in 1998 and served three terms. After leaving the county commission, Rackleff worked with environmentalists in Uganda in 2011, then was a speechwriter for Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz and Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro in Washington. When Obama left office, Rackleff resumed consulting work for corporate and nonprofit clients in Washington.
