More than two decades ago, Ron narrowly lost a tough race for Congress against a longtime lawmaker seeking re-election. Now DiNicola will get another shot against a five term ncumbent in November. The son of an immigrant bricklayer, Ron grew up on Erie’s west side in a house his father built. After high school graduation, he joined the Marines, and after his military service he attended Harvard University on the GI Bill, obtaining a degree in government. He then earned his law degree from Georgetown University. Ron has a long history of public service. He is the former chief solicitor for Erie County government and past chairman of the Erie County Democratic Party. DiNicola is also chairman of Empower Erie, a nonprofit leading the push to establish a community college in Erie County. He is currently a Partner, DiNicola Law Offices. DiNicola said he is taking a leave of absence from various local nonprofit boards as he runs for Congress. Ron is the recipient of the 2012 NAACP Spirit of the Community Award and the 2015 "Voice for Children Vision Award" of the Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children.
