Assumed congressional office in 2011. Former Career: Illinois Senate, Illinois House of Representatives, DuPage County, Illinois Board of Commissioners. Education: Bethel University, Chicago- Kent College of Law. Currently resides in Plano. Hultgren was born in Park Ridge, IL and later receiving a degree from Bethel University, and his JD from the Chicago- Kent College of Law. Before his election to the Illinois House of Representatives Hultgren was a member, DuPage County Board. Hultgren was first elected to the U.S. House in 2010. As a Congressman Hultgren signed a pledge sponsored by Americans for Prosperity (funded by Koch brothers), promising to vote against any climate-change legislation that would raise taxes.” Hultgren opposes same-sex marriage, and voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act. He sponsored legislation to allocate $110 million per year in federal grants for abstinence education in schools. Although a strong advocate for science education, he favors a prohibition on embryonic stem cell research. He has voted in favor terminating funding for National Public Radio. Hultgren is an advocate for homeschooling and he believes that "homeschooling is the ultimate local control”. In 2011, Hultgren introduced the Family Educational Records Privacy Extension Act, which would have required "parental consent before educational agencies or institutions release the educational records of home-schooled students. In March 2017, Hultgren voted to reverse a Federal Communications Commission privacy rule that prevented internet service providers from to selling their customers’ browsing data. Hultgren was a vocal opponent of the Dodd–Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which created new financial regulations after the financial crisis. Hultgren has voted in line with President Donald Trump’s position in 97.3% of votes. Hultgren is married with four children, and currently resides in Plano.
