Assumed congressional office in 2011. Former Career: Alabama House of Representatives, Madison County Commissioner. Education: Duke University University of Alabama. Currently resides in Huntsville.Rep. Brooks is a member of the far-right House Freedom Caucus and was ranked as the 75th most conservative member of the House. He is a strong supporter of America’s missile defense technologies. He is also a climate change skeptic. He challenged climate scientist Philip Duffy, who had pointed out that seas across the world are rising four times faster than they did a century ago. Brooks replied, "Every time you have that soil or rock or whatever it is that is deposited into the seas, that forces the sea levels to rise, because now you have less space in those oceans, because the bottom is moving up." In an interview, he claimed carbon dioxide in the air is beneficial: "Plant life does better because of the enriched environment on which they can live."He opposes abortion rights, federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions, gun control legislation, same sex marriage and any tax increase. Americans For Prosperity (funded by Koch) and the NRA both gave Brooks a rating of 93%.
