Elissa Slotkin fights back
Elissa Slotkin is the former Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs. She was the principal advisor to the Under Secretary of Defense and Secretary of Defense on security strategy and policy issues related to the nations and international organizations of Europe, Russia, the Middle East, Africa, and the Western Hemisphere. She is running for Congress in Michigan as a Democrat.
Her opponent, Republican Mike Bishop, counts himself a proud follower of Donald Trump, who tweeted his support of Bishop last week. He is a climate change skeptic who’s stance is “Who knows?” In a televised debate on October 7, Bishop went on the attack, ““I’m not going to be chased out of this district by Nancy Pelosi or anybody who wants to do a classic Washington, D.C., power grab.” Slotkin replied, “He says Nancy Pelosi recruited me to run for this race, but Mike Bishop recruited me into this race the minute he voted to completely obliterate protections for people with pre-existing conditions.” In their most recent debate, when Bishop brought up the federal deficit the crowd broke out into shouts and a man exclaimed, “You voted for it!”
According to the 538 poll, Slotkin is a head of Bishop by 3 points. Much is at stake in this election. We must not lose this one.
